Boxtyp "E" 1964 - 69

Boxtyp "E" 1964 - 69

1964 saw the first new "E" style box with the introduction of the No. 28C Jaguar Mk.10. The main difference ist that now just "Matchbox" is printed in a full arc above the model picture and "Series" much smaller underneath it. There are many small minor subtypes for the "E" boxes but i will just use these three main types which differ from other catalogs:

E1: no model picture on the side flaps

E2: now with colour model picture to side flaps but still without "Matchbox" above it

E3: now with colour picture and "Matchbox" on the side flaps

E1 1964 - 66

E1 1964 - 66

The early "E1" box has no model picture to the side flaps. These might still be found with an brown "Striker" side ( 1964 ), all later printings are having two blue sides. Some models having white circles showing the models funtion on the side flaps, that's not sub-variation for me. That circle is there ( if the model has some sort of function ) ot not, there's not a single one which exist with both types.

E2 1965 - 66

E2 1965 - 66

The "E2" boxes are usually harder to find because they have been used just a short time. The sideflaps are now showing the colour picture of the model but still without the "Matchbox" logo above it. Most "E2" boxes are belonging to the harder to find boxes, the "E2" box for the No.34B VW Caravette is the rarest "E" box at all.

E3 1965 - 69

E3 1965 - 69

The most common "E" box, the "E3" typ. Now with colour picture to the side flaps and with "MATCHBOX" in red above it.
