Boxtyp "D" 1962 - 66

1962 saw an complete re-design of the box artwork, the model was now shown in full colour with "Matchbox series" in an arc above the picture. The first model to be issued with an "D" box was the No.2C Muir Hill Dumper therefore we know that these boxes were introduced in may 1962.

With some model these boxes were used long into the "E" box era, some well untill into 1966.

The first version of the "D" box is having the model name printed with "serifs" onto the side flaps. These was replaced with all block capital letters on all later versions.

D1 boxes always having the brown "Striker" underside.

The second version of the "D" box now with all capital letters without serifs to the flaps. Still with the brown "Striker" side.

D3 1964 - 66

The next version of the "D" box now has the brown "Striker" underside removed, both sides are printed in the same blue. Usually found in the standard darker shade of blue but some have been recorded in an lighter shade of blue similiar to the later "E" boxes. No flag symbols to the inner flaps.

The last version of the "D" Box was produced when the next generation "E" box was already introduced, therefore usually found in a lighter shade of blue. Now with flag symbols on the inner flaps.
